Completing the Form

Please include the following values in your form:

  • Title.*
  • ISBN, if available. Only provide ISBNs for print versions, not for e-resources.

  • Permalink.* This can be a Permalink, WorldCat Link, or Internet Archive Link/ID. See instructions below.
  • Acquisition type.* Is the book already available on ACE or the Internet Archive? Or will it need to be freshly digitized from the UTL catalogue, or will you provide the item, or does it need to be acquired by other means?
  • Date needed.*
  • Notes about the request, if applicable.

*=required.

Before Submitting a Request:

Please check the following:

  1. Is the title already available in ACE?

Try searching for the item by keyword or title on the ACE search platform.

If yes, provide the title, ISBN (if available), and the URL of the book from the ACE platform in the Permalink field. Set the Acquisition type to “This item is already in ACE” and set your date needed. Look for the label “This is an ACE Book” next to the title. If that label is not near the title, the book is not an ACE title, so you can proceed to step 2. If no, proceed to step 2.

  2. Is the title already digitized and available on the Internet Archive?

You can check this by going to archive.org and searching for your desired book by title or ISBN.

If yes, provide the link to the Internet Archive version or the Internet Archive ID for the digitized version in the Permalink field. Set the Acquisition type to “This item is in the Internet Archive’s accessible collection.” Fill in the other minimum required fields. If no, proceed to step 3.

  3. Is the title available within the UTL catalogue?

If yes, provide the permalink from the UTL catalogue in the Permalink field. Set the Acquisition type to “U of T Curbside.” Fill in the other minimum required fields. Do not provide permalinks for e-resources. If no, proceed to step 4.

  4. Does your institution own the item?

If yes, set the Acquisition type to “I will provide this item.” Fill in the other minimum required fields. If no, proceed to step 5.

  5. If none of the previous steps apply, please find a permalink from an OMNI page or a WorldCat link and put that link in the “Permalink” field of the request form. Fill in the other minimum required fields. Set the Acquisition type to “Please acquire this item.”
